In a bizarre collaboration that breaks conventional expectations, the game developer has unveiled an in-game partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, offering no-cost additional story content for Shadows players.

Mysterious Mission Disclosed

According to the authorized release, "A mysterious encounter leads characters Naoe and Yasuke into a new mission, where rumors of forbidden rituals and monstrous changes resonate through the darkness." The storyline presents a "oddly garbed woman named Ada" who tasks the duo with venturing into the Gemstone Grotto—a important location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her companion from a hidden cult.

The adventure focuses on "peculiar tests and a terrifying foe" and is open to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.

Familiar Locations and Changes

The trailer showcases the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was formerly where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through eras. The teaser finishes with a dramatic scene showing a character, probably the captive, changing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Items and Bonus Features

Players who successfully complete the mission will receive an special katana in addition to several artifacts hidden throughout the area in secret chests. The update also contains in-store Attack on Titan item packs, offering:

• Titan-themed outfit for Yasuke
• Mikasa attire for Naoe
• Special arms
• Survey Corps mount

Third Free Story Addition

This update also adds the game's third complimentary story addition, titled "A Puzzlement." This lighthearted mission partners Naoe and Yasuke as they trade characteristic abilities: Naoe debuts a performative version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-lethal stealth takedowns. True to its name, "The Mystery" also includes a new environmental puzzle that may eventually clarify some unanswered questions from the main storyline.

Past Anime Collaborations

This marks not the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has crossed over with well-known anime franchises. The series earlier included a 2020 collaborative story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Additionally, Valhalla informally included a quest that obviously nodded to the well-known series One-Punch Man.
